Special Educational Needs

Intent

All children, despite their differences and barriers to learning, are entitled to a good education across a broad and balanced curriculum. Pupils will make progress academically and learn new curriculum based skills and life skills, as well as learn about relationships and communication. This will support them to become happy, confident, independent young people.

Implementation

All teachers are teachers of SEND and deliver quality first teaching, differentiated to meet individual need.

A broad and balanced curriculum allows pupils to develop a range of important knowledge and skills.

SEND pupils are included in all aspects of school life, with adaptations in environment, resources and/or support made when necessary.

Collaboration and communication are key and we work in partnership with pupils, parents, families and outside agencies to achieve the best outcome for each individual.

Pupils may have specific 1:1 or small group intervention to support their Phonics, Maths or Literacy learning. Pupils may have additional support from a Learning Mentor.

Pupils and families may work alongside external agencies such as an Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, a Pupil and School Support teacher, the Communication and Autism Team or School Nurse.

Impact

SEND pupils are happy, safe and valued. Pupils leave Summerfield with skills and knowledge that will help them manage the next stage of their schooling and provide the foundations to becoming valued members of the wider community.

Designated Safeguarding Lead

The safety of our students and staff is our Number 1 priority. We have 6 leaders with specific training to help you and to keep you safe inside and outside of the school.
